Mount and Blade: Warband Impressions!

While I have been trying not to wear myself out playing Final Fantasy 13 which seems to be one massive ordeal at the moment I can take comfort in that Mount and Blade: Warband will be there for me when things get a little to much with Lightning and the gang.

Mount and Blade Warband is exactly the opposite of what Final Fantasy is. It's a free roaming, sandbox medieval RPG set in a fictional place which does not seem to different from mainland Europe.

The whole point of this game is to play a character as you see fit. Not follow some contrived bullshit story about people who have been given godlike powers and that have tatto's that turn in to animals like some kind of Data East Mortal Kombat rip-off. If you want to just roam around the countryside and pillage everything that you see then that's cool. Don't like to fight? then you could always become a trader. Hell you can even start your own faction and become kind of everything that surrounds you if you wish. That's what I like about this game, it's a refreshing change from the linear games I have been playing lately.

Oh and did I mention this game now has multiplayer? Yeah that's right you can get involved in some brutal 64 man skirmishes which works surprisingly well for an independently made video game. Don't do straight deathmatch though because it's a cluster fuck, head towards the Battle or Seige modes for the real deal as those are the real money makers of this franchise.

Anyway I highly recommend this game, it's brilliant!

My thoughts on Battlefield Bad Company 2's single player

Battlefield Bad Company 2's single player campaign is a fun ride for the eight or so hours that it lasts but it's not the greatest game I have ever played. In fact I prefer the original game's single player experience with it's tongue and cheek humour which this game sorely lacks for the most part.

The game became very linear which is the norm for video games these days. That said though the set pieces where good enough to keep my interest but I felt the game lost a little something by taking away my free roaming freedom.

However this is not a bad game, in fact it's rather good. If you are just in to play games for the single player it might be worth a rental. On the other hand the multiplayer is fantastic and much better than Modern Warfare 2's in my opinion so check it out!

Some new reviews I wrote...

Hi just writing this to let you guys know that another one of my reviews has now made it's way on the PEOWW which can be found here so I hope you guys like it.

As for me? Well I have been playing a lot of Mount and Blade: Warband lately and it's freaking awesome. There is nothing quite like a 64 man skirmish online with zero lag and people who play together as a team. One of the most fun experiences I have had playing any game online for some time.

Meanwhile in console news, Just Cause 2, just spent 24 hours in game time and I am nowhere near the end. the game is massively padded out with stupid collect-a-thon quests. It will be going on the back burner for awhile while I play the numerous other brand new games that I brought but not gotten around to playing yet. I want to play Final Fantasy 13 next but I have been hearing very mixed things about it so I might go with Residence of Fate or Yakuza 2 instead.
